A while back I posted here on pdupinit.com the below video diet from Jon Fitch. If you weren’t aware, Fitch REALLY focuses on his diet & everything he eats, and it shows in his “never-get-tired” fighting style. I recall him having his own Nutritionist and being a super strict Vegetarian eating all Organic vegies and fruits.
Since watching this video about a year ago, I have practiced what Fitch does. Ok, so I am not as strict as Fitch when it comes to the all Vegie diet, but I am damn near close to it. I figured why not, it won’t kill me and if you don’t know me, I like to train hard! I am kind of a freak when it comes to keeping in shape and pushing my limits. I roll BJJ a couple times a week, I lift weights and Kettlebells regularly, I Box a few times a week, I put in the road work because of this guy, Griff
>>>>>>>> and overall, just love to be healthy. Plus, since I own pd I love to test our products to the max! But most importantly, feeling healthy means you feel good and look good doing it, right?
The one BIG part of the video that really hit home for me was the water consumption he consumes every morning on an empty stomach. Fitch consumes 32 oz of water every morning, first thing when he wakes up. The reason behind this is because your body soaks up that water when you sleep. You may also be like me where you get up once, maybe twice to pee in the night, so of course to rehydrate first thing in the AM makes complete sense. Also makes more sense if you train hard like Fitch.
However, chugging a straight 32 ozs is not that easy, especially if you are not used to it. The first couple days was fairly tough. My stomach didn’t like that much fluid at once and it made me feel a little uncomfortable. It was weird though, as soon as I chugged that much water I could feel it moving through my body instantly. I would get chilled or actually a little cold. Then the chills would subside and from there it was running to the restroom every 30-45 mins or so to release a lot of that water I just drank. After a couple of potty trips I was all good. Fitch had said that drinking that much water in the morning would make you feel more awake, more energetic throughout the day. My first hand experience was just that, YES, I was ready to go, on point, let’s do the damn thing kind of energy. I was hooked! I haven’t looked back since then and every day I drink my 32 as soon as I wake up.
Now, that was the first part of the day and Fitch’s video doesn’t really talk about the second part of the day, or after lunch, so I took it upon myself to continue this effort so I could continue to keep hydrated. Not sure what time you train but this can be really important since I imagine some of you train in the evenings after work or maybe during your lunch break, etc. For me, it was mostly in the evening so I wanted to be sure that I was fully hydrated, alert and ready to go for my workout.
So, in the afternoon I usually chug another 32 oz around 1:30 or 2 PM (after lunch) to assure I am plenty hydrated either after my noon run with Griff or before a BJJ or Boxing workout, which usually are around 3 -4 PM. This way it gives me a chance to pee what I need to and doesn’t distract me from afternoon/evening workouts.
Now here are my first hand “Pro’s & Con’s” for drinking this much water:
Pros:
Cons:
Here are a couple of Fitch’s food videos. The first one here is from the Shoot where Jon really breaks down Nutrition.
Here’s where Jon talks about his 32 oz water in take every morning:
Just to be clear, I did this purely on my own, this is not a marketing deal for Jon or anyone else. We don’t sponsor him in any way, although I would love to show my appreciation by hooking him up with some gloves
I was influenced by the videos and love health. Jon is a great ambassador of the sport and being healthy and educating people on nutrition.
If you decide to give this a shot let me know how it’s worked out for you. Hit me up on the pd Fan Page and leave a comment.
